Three easy steps to fundraising success

Whether you’re sweating it out at the London Marathon or organising a sponsored head shave, the biggest challenge can often be gathering all that sponsorship you’ve been promised.

There’s no need to worry. By using our tried and tested fundraising tips you’ll find that reaching your sponsorship target could be the easiest part of the challenge.

Here are a few top tips to help you get started with your fundraising. Sign up to an event and we’ll provide you with even more ideas to help you meet and even exceed your target.

Step one – Just Giving

The easiest and most effective way to kick start your fundraising is by setting up an online fundraising page on Just Giving.

Benefits

  • It’s secure.
  • It raises funds instantly.
  • It doesn’t take long to set up.
  • You can personalise it with photos and messages.
  • You can instantly link with your other social networks, like Facebook.

To set up your page, go to the Just Giving website.

Step two – advertise yourself

Aim high
Be ambitious and set yourself a target you’d really feel proud to achieve. You’ll be surprised how much setting a target really motivates sponsors to help you on your way.

Put your best foot forward
Send your page out to some close friends or family who you know will give generously first. With a few good donations to kick off your page you’ll find others will follow suit.

Don’t leave a stone unturned
Ask everyone you know to sponsor you, and add a link to your social networking sites, like Facebook.

Be persistent
Schedule an email out to all your contacts every few weeks with a link to your Just Giving page, updates on your training/fundraising progress and thanks to all those who’ve donated so far.

Carry on past the finish line
Just Giving will keep your fundraising page open for three months after the event is finished, allowing you to get that promised sponsorship.

Step three – be creative

There are many other ways that you can raise extra funds. Here are just a few:

  • host a themed party for your friends
  • an Easter egg hunt
  • fancy dress
  • karaoke
  • BBQ
  • garden party
  • sports day

Don’t leave it to the last minute. Plan your sponsorship strategy in advance and whatever you do, don’t panic. The Addaction team is on hand to help so keep in touch.

And finally… Smile
Be happy and never feel guilty about asking people to sponsor you - you’re doing an amazing thing for Addaction and it’s with your help that we’re able to continue to rebuild lives devastated by drugs and alcohol.
