Giving shares

Donating shares

Making a charitable gift of shares can be a tax effective way of donating money to Addaction.
In addition to the benefit to the charity, you - the donor - benefit from tax relief in two ways:

  • Income Tax relief on the value of the shares
  • exemption from Capital Gains Tax.

If you want to give shares you need to complete a stock transfer form to:

  • take the shares out of your name
  • put them into Addaction's name

On the stock transfer form, in the box entitled 'Full name and postal address of the person to whom the security is transferred', write:

Addaction
67-69 Cowcross Street
London
EC1M 6PU

Complete, sign and date the form and send it, together with the share certificate to:

Kelly-Marie Blundell
Addaction
67-69 Cowcross Street
London
EC1M 6PU

We strongly advise you to keep a copy of the stock transfer form as evidence of your gift and you will need it to apply for tax relief. To find out more, visit the HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) website.
