11 February 2008 Addaction hires new fundraisers ahead of major appeal launchAddaction, Britain‘s biggest specialist drug and alcohol charity, has appointed two new staff to join its fundraising team as it gears up to launch a major new fundraising campaign this year. The charity is laying the groundwork for a £10 million campaign to fund innovative work with families and young people affected by drug or alcohol problems. It is the first attempt by a drug and alcohol charity to use a high-profile public appeal to draw in a significant amount of voluntary income to fund its work. Rachel Brady joins the team as Head of Fundraising and Layla Hazeldon fills the position of Trusts and Statutory Fundraising Manager. They join a team of three headed up by Director Marketing and Public Affairs, Alan Booth. Rachel Brady was previously Head of Individual Giving at charity Independent Age and has also worked as Direct Marketing and Donor Development Manager at the British Lung Foundation and as Brand Project Manager at Centrepoint. Layla Hazeldon moves to Addaction from Grooms-Shaftesbury, a charity supporting disabled people and marginalised communities, where she also worked as a fundraiser. Their focus will be on sustaining Addaction’s recent growth, which has seen income rise to almost £30 million a year and securing new funds to allow the charity to extend its work tackling drug and alcohol dependency among young people, supporting their families and helping former drug users find employment. Alan Booth says: “We are delighted to have Rachel and Layla on board at this exciting time for us. This team will be central to our campaign launch later this year, which will focus on giving us the financial freedom we need to innovate and respond to the big challenges we see for families and communities affected by drugs and alcohol in our work on the frontline.” ENDS Notes to editors
